Ghosts of Carbon

Michael C Coldwell and Urban Exploration willington power station

These photographs were taken as part of a recent expedition to the Five Sisters cooling towers by the Urban Exploration collective.

The group visited the remains of the derelict coal-fired power station, at Willington Derbyshire, to make field recordings exploiting the towers unique acoustic characteristics.

The haunting sounds, images, and looming towers themselves, are presented here as spectral traces of a disappearing epoch - the age of carbon.
